The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has published updated Acceptable Means of Compliance (AMC) and Guidance Material (GM) to Regulations (EU) 2019/945 and 2019/947 (drones in the ‘open’ and ‘specific’ category). The ED Decision 2023/012/R publication amends the acceptable means of compliance (AMC) and guidance material (GM) to Regulation (EU) 2019/947. In brief, the new guidance:
* clarifies the method for assessing the design of unmanned aircraft systems (UASs) operated in the ‘specific’ category;
* expands the applicability of PDRA S-01 to agricultural operations; and
* addresses the authorisation process for free flight balloons.
The objective is to maintain a high level of safety for the operation of unmanned aircraft systems (UASs) in the ‘open’ and ‘specific’ categories.
The regulatory material is expected to improve the level of harmonisation in the implementation of the Regulation and foster a level playing field.
