UK government commits funding to support changing demands from airspace users

The UK government has made available GBP3.7 million support funds to enable faster, quieter and greener flights. Britain’s airspace is made up of a complex network of flight paths that have seen little development since they were designed 70 years ago, despite a surge in demand from commercial planes to private aircraft, the military and drones.

The new funding comes on top of GBP5.5 million government investment announced in 2021, bringing the total to GBP9.2 million since March 2021 to support airspace modernisation. Airspace redesign will play an important role in the drive to reduce aviation emissions as part of the government’s commitment to reach net zero.
