German Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) service provider Droniq reports initial preparations are underway for the first test flights in the U-Space Reallabor Hamburg demonstration area. The UTM system was ‘put though its paces’ according to the service provider
The UTM system developed by DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH and managed by Droniq will be used for a sandbox demonstration with Hamburg providing a real laboratory. It is the first fully operational UAS traffic management system in Germany to integrate drones safely and efficiently into the airspace. Via the UTM access, the remote pilot keeps an eye on the airspace at all times and is informed about all relevant flight activities. Surrounding traffic is also visualised. If a collision is imminent, he receives an early warning. The UTM also warns the remote pilot of airspaces that are off-limits to drones (e.g. airports). After the flight, the pilot can evaluate the flight via the traffic management system.
With these functions, the traffic management system offers the essential prerequisites for carrying out the upcoming test flights in the real laboratory. What happens next will be revealed in the next few days, says Droniq.
